I ordered myself a Custom Shop Carvin back in September. It was the delivered this afternoon. Here’s a few pics. Expect a review soon.
Hey folks, it’s after Thanksgiving and already the hectic holiday season is upon us. I actually hope to get lots done but LOL!!! You know how that goes.. so rather than shoot a video.. I thought I’d shoot up a quick blog. I’ve been doing some “planning” and schemeing as it were.. and I have some things to share as I look forward to more work on The Atlantis Suite CD.
First off, I am wanting to upgrade my audio interface… not that the one I have is not working.. or giving me trouble. But I’m just looking down the road. I would like to upgrade to Windows 8 in the not so distant future and I don’t think I’ll have drivers or support for my interface under Windows 8. Even though my preferred DAW of choice (i.e. Sonar X2).. is a BEAST and runs even better on Win8 (from what I’ve heard).. I need an interface that will support the change. I’m looking at EITHER the Presonus Audiobox 1818VSL or the Focusrite Saffire 40.. those are my top two contenders.. BUT, Focusrite haven’t released their Win8 update for the Saffire 40 yet.. then again.. neither have I. LOL!!! So hopefully soon.. as I think my favorite early on is the Saffire.
I also have done an ABOUT FACE and have decided to start putting Seymour Duncan pickups in my axes (at least going forward). My first project test will be my Carvin V220C. I will be putting a Duncan INVADER pickup in the bridge and a Screamin’ Demon in the neck position. I know the Demon is a bridge pickup.. but it’s a moderate output pickup.. and should pair NICELY with the ultra HOT Invader int he bridge. I hope to pull the trigger before end of the year.. so stay tuned (I might do another video on that one too LOL!!).
Lastly, I wanted to share with you the album “artwork.” I’ve been in contact with a talented artist from France named Pierre ( who can be found at deviantart.com under the name “frenchfox”)…. and he has agreed to me using his work for the CD… I unveil it for you here….
Why, or why did I secure the artwork so early in the production stages of the project? Why not? Besides.. the amazing artistry here by Pierre.. is nothing SHORT of inspiring and will help me gain even more musical ideas to add to my project. Thanks Pierre.
That’s all for now… Rock on!
I just thought I’d send up a few pics this evening of the progress so far… Mind you, these are pics taken with my cell phone.. so not stellar quality.. but it should give you a glimpse of my work area/studio.
That’s all for now.. rock on and talk soon!!
I was able to hang my acoustical treatments this weekend and finished up this morning. The video portion of the room just needs some tweaking for the lighting.. but it should be good to go in no time at all. I should have some time this week to do some touching up on the various loose ends I have in studio, but otherwise… all looks good to start the Pre-Production phases of “The Atlantis Suite.”
For my upcoming CD project, it’s STILL very early but here’s the vision. The album will be an “eclectic” instrumental metal mix (what I’m calling “instrumetal”). It will actually be a “musical” journey thru a fictional story. In the story, at the end of the Mayan Calendar… on the Winter Solstice of 2012 (that’s soon right?).. there are cataclysmic changes to the earth. As a result of this, the world geography drastically changes. Let’s just say, Las Vegas becomes waterfront property for one. =)Among the changes, the “lost Continent” of Atlantis rises from the sea once again. Of course, it is no longer inhabited, but it’s former glory is there for all to admire. In fact, due to the changes on the Earth.. many immigrate to the new land to settle and rebuild on the former Ancient Ruins. There will actually be a story for each song, and as such.. there will actually be a “verse” or piece that can be read to understand each song.. however it will not be read or sung DURING the song, instead it will be available for those interested in following the story. That’s the plan now anyways. I hope to also have some guest musicians on the album… but stay tuned for that. Let me work on getting some material together first. =) I also will do doing a “Social Media” campaign to promote the album (which will be available via the normal channels like Amazon, iTunes, CDBaby, LastFM, etc), so you very likely be seeing videos and posting related to such… so Stay Tuned!!
That’s all for now. Rock on!!
